I am passionate about helping AP Calculus AB teachers grow in their understanding of course content, classroom proficiency, and ability to best prepare students for the AP exam. (My students consistently score 50% above the global average on free response.) I have been teaching high school math since 1994, and have a B.S. in Mathematics from the United States Military Academy at West Point; and, an  M.S. in Teaching Secondary Mathematics, SUNY Potsdam.

I have been a College Board AP Calculus Exam Reader since 2014, and led numerous workshops for The College Board, ACSI, GCTM, and GISA. I have also conducted student study sessions across the country for the National Math and Science Initiative. I am a College Board AP Calculus Mentor and Consultant.

I am currently teaching AP Calculus AB, serving as the Math Department Chair, and coaching volleyball at Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.

Beth Hall earned her MFA in Creative Writing in 2014 and began teaching high school English in Beebe, Arkansas, where she developed a passion for nonfiction and writing instruction. She has taught honors, AP® , and concurrent credit courses and was named Beebe High School Teacher of the Year in 2024.

Hall launched her YouTube channel, Coach Hall Writes, in 2019, which quickly became a trusted resource for AP® Language students and teachers. She has served as an AP® Lang reader, became a College Board consultant in 2023, and co-authored the AMSCO Writing for the AP Exam: English Language and Composition textbook in 2024.

Chris Manor has taught Chemistry in Thompson’s Station, TN (30 miles south of Nashville) since 2011 and has been teaching AP® Chemistry for more than 20 years.

Chris has been an AP® Chemistry Exam reader since 2020, contributed to AP® Daily Videos as a member of the AP® Chemistry team, and served as an AP® Chemistry consultant for the College Board since 2022. He has led APSI’s in Alabama, Mississippi, and Online.

Teaching Chemistry is Chris’s passion. He looks forward to engaging his students with Chemistry and inspiring future STEM majors. Students leave Chris’s AP® Chemistry class prepared to be successful on the AP® Chemistry Exam and ready to take on the challenge of other Math and Science courses at the college level.

He has a B.S. in Chemistry and an M.A. in Secondary Education from Ball State University. In addition to AP Chemistry, he also teaches Honors Chemistry and Honors Organic Chemistry.

Davis Thompson has been teaching AP English Literature and Composition at Auburn High School in Auburn, Alabama for the past twenty-seven years, and he has loved every minute of it.  His greatest passion is teaching students how to both analyze and actually enjoy poetry.  

Davis has been the coach and sponsor for Poetry Out Loud (a national poetry recitation contest) at his school for the past thirteen years and has helped his students win the Alabama State Championship five times, 3^rd place in the nation one time, and the National Poetry Out Loud Championship itself in 2011.  Davis also has had experience through NEH Institutes studying Shakespeare both as an actor and teacher as well as dabbling in some philosophy.  In addition to AP English Literature, he has taught IB English Literature, IB Theory of Knowledge, and Creative Writing.  

Davis holds a B.A. in English from Furman University (1996) and a M.A. in English Education from Auburn University (1997).  He has received the Yale Educator Award (2021) and the Morehead-Cain Impact Educator Award (2023).  He was voted Teacher of the Year by his school faculty in 2005, and he has been recognized as a US Presidential Scholars Distinguished Teacher in 2021.  Davis was also a Parr Shakespeare Award Finalist in 2025.  When asked by students, “Why do we have to read this?” Davis has a simple one-word answer (that is also his life philosophy):  “Joy.” 

Dorothy Rich has devoted her 35-year career to inspiring a love of mathematics in students from grades 5 through 12. A passionate educator and lifelong learner, she currently teaches AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and AP Precalculus at The Heritage School in Newnan, Georgia, where she also serves as Mathematics Department Chair, overseeing the PreK–12 math program and faculty.

Dorothy earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Economics from Emory University and continues to deepen her mathematical knowledge through professional collaboration and curriculum development. She was named a Master Teacher by the Georgia Independent School Association, as part of the inaugural class recognized for excellence in teaching and leadership.

Since 2015, Dorothy has served as an AP Reader for AP Statistics and as an AP Mentor in the Rural Georgia AP STEM Initiative, supporting teachers across the state. She is also among the first group of College Board consultants for the launch of the AP Precalculus course. At the inaugural AP Precalculus Reading, she served as a Table Leader and organized the course’s first Best Practices Night. She is currently authoring a forthcoming AP Precalculus review book.

A multi-year Star Teacher Award recipient, Dorothy is known for her dedication to students and her commitment to excellence in teaching. She and her husband, Jimmy, live in Newnan, Georgia, and are proud parents of three sons and grandparents of three.

Garry Shriver has taught five AP subjects and two International Baccalaureate subjects, including IB Psychology, during his 32 years as a public-school teacher in the Memphis, TN, area. Over his career, Mr. Shriver taught AP Psychology for 25 years, served the College Board as a reader and table leader for the AP Psychology exam for 12 years, served on the Free Response Rubric Development Committee for the national exam, contributed as a multiple-choice question writer for the AP Psychology exam, and was a member of the national development committee that created the national Psychology Praxis exam for the Educational Testing Service. Most recently, Mr. Shriver worked as a consultant for Pearson Publishing, contributing to the Ciccarelli and White AP Psychology textbook.

While working for Shelby County Schools, Mr. Shriver was a district workshop leader and psychology curriculum writer. He also served as the social studies department chair and Advanced Placement department chair at Bolton High School for 30 years. He is a three-time National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship recipient and has served on numerous Superintendents' Advisory Committees, including the Tennessee Governor's Round Table for Education.

Annie Freeman serves the Curriculum Leader at Robertsdale High School in Baldwin County Public Schools, where she supports teachers and school leaders in strengthening instructional practices, using data to drive decisions, and building systems that ensure all students succeed. With a background in secondary mathematics instruction, she is passionate about helping students develop deep conceptual understanding and confidence in mathematics.

Annie also teaches as an adjunct mathematics instructor for Coastal and has experience supporting educators through professional learning, collaboration, and curriculum development. As an College Board Consultant, she is committed to helping teachers build engaging, rigorous learning experiences that prepare students for success in advanced mathematics courses

Jim Day is retired as a Professor of History from the University of Montevallo.  He holds a B.S. in engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an M.A. in history from the University of Georgia, and a Ph.D. in history from Auburn University.  His monograph—Diamonds in the Rough:  A History of Alabama’s Cahaba Coal Field—combines technological and social history to examine the industrial development of central Alabama.  The book won the Alabama Historical Association’s 2014 Clinton Jackson Coley Award for the best work on local history, and Jim was named University Scholar for Academic Year 2014-2015 at the University of Montevallo.  He also served as the inaugural Michael J. Grainger Professor in Modern History, 2018-2022.

Since retiring from the Army in 1995, Jim has taught history at Marion Military Institute, Judson College, Auburn University Montgomery, and the University of Montevallo.  At the the University of Montevallo, he taught courses in Colonial America, Revolutionary America, Jeffersonian and Jacksonian America, the Gilded Age, U.S. History since 1945, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and the History of Alabama’s Constitutions.  He also developed Staff Ride/Terrain Walk courses on the Civil War battles of Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Franklin.

Kris Campos has been a Spanish teacher at Cedar Park High School in the suburbs of Austin, Texas since 2008, where she also serves as Department Chair for Languages other than English and Sponsor of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.

Prior to moving to Texas, she taught for 10 years at Topeka West High School in Topeka, Kansas. Kris has taught AP Spanish Language and Culture for over 25 years, and has also taught all other levels of Spanish, from Spanish I through AP Spanish Literature.

She has participated in the AP Reading since 2004, as a Reader, Table Leader, Sample Selector and most recently as Question Leader. In addition to serving as an AP Consultant and AP Mentor, Kris has also presented workshops at local conferences and served as a mentor for new AP teachers in her district. She received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kansas State University. 

Lee Ferguson (she/her) is a nationally recognized AP Biology teacher and science education leader. She is a faculty member at The Episcopal School of Dallas in Dallas, Texas, where she also serves as the Upper School Diversity Coordinator and an EdTech Coach. She has taught AP Biology for 23 of her 30 years in education. Lee helped develop the AP Biology Course and Exam Description, training materials for AP consultants, and various instructional materials for AP Biology.

Lee has been an AP Biology consultant since 2016 and serves as one of the College Board’s Lead AP Biology Consultants. She is a long-time AP Reader and Table Leader. Lee also serves on the AP Biology Exam Development Committee and is an HHMI BioInteractive Ambassador. 

A science education leader at the state and national levels, Lee is a Past President of the Texas Association of Biology Teachers. She currently serves as an NABT Director at Large and is a member of the NCSE Board of Directors.

Through the work she does with teachers, she hopes to spark a sense of wonder and curiosity in students as they explore biology framed in real-world contexts and based in active inquiry learning. Her workshops show teachers that teaching AP science can be fun, helping students develop deep thinking and analysis skills, all while creating safe, inclusive classroom environments that empower students to grow as learners and scientists. 

Mark Little had been a science teacher at Broomfield High School in Colorado for 32 years and has taught AP Biology for about 20 years and retired at the end of 2018.  He has been very involved with the AP Biology re-design, including and not limited to field-testing some of the laboratory investigations and helping with the new CED. 

Mark has been an AP Reader and Table Leader for over fifteen years at the reading along with being an item writer for the exam. Mark received his bachelor of science degree from Colorado State University and his master’s degree from the University of Denver.

Mark incorporates the new curriculum framework ideas in his workshop and his focus for his institutes is to help the AP Biology come alive for students He incorporates the information learned in his workshops and stays current using research-based, pedagogically sound instructional strategies. 

Mark is involved with the AP Biology Teacher community and offers help to teachers directly in these groups. Mark is National Board Certified and has been recognized for his teaching by receiving various awards, including the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for the state of Colorado in 2005. Since 2014, Mark has lead AP workshops in Alabama, Arizona, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Washington, New Mexico and California. Mark was President of the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) in 2013 and currently still very involved with the organization.  In 2024, he received NABT’s highest award, Honorary Membership by being recognized for his teaching and service in the biological sciences.  He enjoys reading, fly fishing and golfing and traveling with his wife in his free time.

Matt Wells (MEd) is an award-winning teacher, Science department chair, AP consultant and workshop presenter based in Houston, TX. 

Having an ecological research background working in Madagascar and Guyana, Matt launched his school district’s AP Environmental Science program in 2005 and has taught APES ever since in a low-income suburban public school setting. 

An AP Reader since 2012, Matt is also an AP Consultant for the College Board, a Coach for the National Math and Science Initiative and regularly leads AP and Gifted Education workshops around the country.  Matt has conducted Summer Institutes, Mock Readings, Student Study Sessions, conference workshops and other trainings, and has received numerous awards for his work, including the Texas Chemical Council’s Award for Excellence in Environmental Education, the Butler Award for Educational Excellence, and NABT’s Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for Texas. 

As a national consultant and Past-President of both the Science Teacher’s Association of Texas and the Texas Association of Biology Teachers, Matt has seen many different ways to teach APES around the country.  Whether urban or rural, wealthy or low-income, large or small, Matt believes that APES can be taught effectively in any school setting and is passionate about helping teachers launch and develop their programs, so they can connect their students to the world around them in meaningful ways and prepare them effectively for the rigors of the AP exam. 

Michael Farabaugh has taught chemistry and AP Chemistry since 1998, and currently teaches at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, VA. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary, a M.S. in Chemistry from Michigan State University, and a M.T. in Science Education from the University of Virginia.

From 2022 - 2025 he served on the Governing Board for the American Association of Chemistry Teachers (AACT). He has been an AP Reader since 2011, and he has served as a member of the AP Chemistry Test Development Committee (2020 - 2024). He has also led study sessions for students and workshops for teachers as a consultant for AP Chemistry with the National Math and Science Initiative. He has been a presenter at the Biennial Conference for Chemical Education (BCCE) in 2022 and 2024. He also presented at the ChemEd conference in 2023 and 2025. He is a contributor for ChemEd X.

Pam Shlachtman currently teaches A.P. Environmental Science at Miami Palmetto Senior High School and has served as a science instructor in the Miami-Dade Public School System since the mid 1980’s, many of those as chairperson of the science department. 

With a B.S. in Chemistry and a M.S. in Environmental and Urban Systems, she started her teaching career as an adjunct instructor at Miami-Dade College.  Ms. Shlachtman also served as an adjunct professor at Florida International University for over 10 years.

Her professional accomplishments include designing and reviewing science curriculum for the Miami-Dade County Public School System, consulting for the College Board in Advanced Placement Environmental Science, participating in the AP annual reading (serving as a reader, table leader, question leader and exam leader), contributing to several AP Curriculum Modules and being a former member of the Test Development Committee for A.P. Environmental Science.  She is also one of the consultants that contributed to the Curriculum and Exam Design (CED) for AP Environmental Science.

Ms. Shlachtman has been fortunate to teach AP Environmental Science since its inaugural offering in 1997 and has conducted multiple APSIs throughout the United States and China since 2000.  In addition to numerous academic achievements, Science Teacher of the Year awards, and awards for Outstanding Leadership in Environmental Science, she also serves as the coach for many of her school’s academic competition teams including Envirothon, Astronaut Challenge, National Ocean Science Bowl and Science Fair. She is particularly proud of her Envirothon teams as they have been virtually undefeated at the regional level since 1990 and have won the state competition multiple times advancing to the international or NCF Envirothon.

Rebecca Howell brings over two decades of AP Physics teaching experience to the AP Summer Institute. Since 2000, she has taught in the North Atlanta Metro area and currently teaches AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism at Lambert High School in Suwanee, Georgia. She’s passionate about helping both students and teachers thrive in the AP Physics classroom.

Rebecca has taught every AP Physics course and has been deeply involved with the College Board, serving as a Reader, Table Leader, and Question Leader at the AP Physics Reading from 2003–2020. She was also a member of the AP Physics 2 Test Development Committee and served as the College Board Advisor from 2013–2018.

Her APSI sessions are built on years of experience mentoring teachers through the Noyce I-IMPACT Teaching Fellowship at Kennesaw State University, where she supported new Physics and AP Physics teachers and earned her Teacher Leader Endorsement. Rebecca has led workshops for the Georgia Department of Education and presents at the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) national meetings.

In her sessions, Rebecca brings a practical, supportive, and engaging approach. Participants can expect strategies that are classroom-tested, insights into the AP Exam from the perspective of an experienced reader and exam leader, and a welcoming space to share ideas and grow professionally.

Rebecca is a two-time STAR Teacher for Lambert High School and the district (2019, 2023) and the recipient of the 2020 E. Scott Barr Award for Physics Teaching Excellence from the University of Alabama. Outside the classroom, she coaches the school’s Science Olympiad and Physics Teams and is a fan of coffee, creativity, the outdoors, Disney, Star Wars, and Harry Potter.

A New York native and educator, Renee Nelson currently teaches at KIPP NYC. She brings a deep commitment to high expectations, thoughtful instruction, and pedagogy that equips students with the mathematical knowledge and financial literacy skills they need for their futures.

As the child of two accountants and a mathematics major at Boston University, teaching math has been at the core of every project she takes on. Renee was a member of the founding team at KIPP NYC College Prep High School, where she helped launch programs, traditions, and courses that continue to shape the school’s culture today.

She is honored to have been selected as part of the development team for the new AP course, Business with Personal Finance, contributing to work that expands access to rigorous, real-world learning opportunities for students. Her work centers on curriculum innovation, financial literacy, and preparing young people to think critically and confidently about their futures.
