Rising 9th - 12th Grade

The College of Education’s Truman Pierce Institute is proud to offer LEAD Summer Camp, a free, week-long overnight university experience designed to inspire and empower high school students. Throughout the program, participants will immerse themselves in college-like environments, engage in hands-on learning across multiple disciplines, and build the academic and personal skills needed to thrive in higher education and beyond. Students will explore innovative technology activities, strengthen their writing abilities, and take part in interactive sessions that promote confidence, leadership, and future readiness.

LEAD Summer Camp is completely free to attend and is intended for rising 9th–12th graders across the state of Alabama. Priority registration is provided to students served through the LEAD program in Lee, Macon, and Chambers counties.

Typical program content includes:

  • Evening activities: sports, swimming, games, movies, tournaments
  • Creative writing workshops: build confidence and communication
  • Team-building sessions: strengthen collaboration and leadership
  • Arts exploration: hands-on creative experiences
  • Field trips: real-world learning in the social sciences
  • STEM learning labs: hands-on activities to build digital and scientific skills
  • Campus tours: discover college life up close
  • Test-taking practice: sharpen academic readiness
  • University connections: meet admissions, financial aid, and student services
  • Study skills workshops: improve organization and learning strategies
