Rising 11th - 12th Grade

The Building Science camp hosted by the Auburn University McWhorter School of Building Science is a weeklong program for rising 11th and 12th grade students interested in the field of Construction Management.

Participants will learn from McWhorter School of Building Science faculty and current students about construction materials and methods and how to plan and safely manage a construction project.

Faculty will lecture and provide classroom-based exercises allowing student to learn more about estimating, scheduling, and contract business as well as CIT modeling.

There will also be hands-on experience opportunities. Each participant will utilize and practice the skills learned throughout the week while working together to build a storage shed for a Habitat for Humanity house with guidance and direction from faculty.

Camp participants will experience campus-life while residing in Auburn’s resident dormitories, eating at campus dining facilities, and enjoying evening social and recreational activities. Participants will have 24/7 counselor supervision. Cell phone usage will not be allowed during classroom lectures or hands on experiences. Cell phone usage will be permitted during non-instructional time.

Camp Fees are $880 and include the following items:
  • On campus housing
  • All meals, snacks and drinks while at camp
  • Program instruction, materials and equipment
  • Transportation to and from off-campus field-trip sites
  • Recreational activities

 

Scholarship Application

The Scholarship Application for CADC camps will close at 11:59am CST on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Decisions will be released in mid-March and for those accepted, confirmation of attendance will be due by EOB on Wednesday, April 1.

What is required to apply to a Building Science Camp?

  • To apply, you must complete the online application in full, which includes basic information, three short answer questions and uploading a high school transcript as well as a letter of recommendation.

How many students are accepted?

  • Typically, 20 students are selected for a Building Science Camp.

What does the selection committee look for in a Building Science Camp applicant?

  • The selection committee is looking for applicants who have a strong interest in the field of Construction Management, and clearly communicate their interest in learning more about the field through their short answer questions. Emphasis will also be given to applicants with a strong letter of recommendation and good high school transcripts.

Who should I pick for my letter of recommendation?

  • We recommend that your letter is written by someone who can speak to your character, work ethic, career goals and academic excellence. This person could be a teacher, mentor, coach, volunteer coordinator/supervisor, scout leader, etc. We do not recommend having a family member write your letter.

My recommender wants to send my letter directly to AYP. What should they do?

  • If you are unable to upload your letter of recommendation as a PDF with your application, send your letter as a PDF to the Auburn Youth Program Office email: auyouth@auburn.edu

Where can my school send a transcript?

  • We do not require an official transcript, an unofficial transcript is fine. You can obtain a copy of your transcripts from your school’s front office or counselor and upload it with your online application.

I am homeschooled. What should I submit for a transcript?

  • If you have an umbrella school, you can submit your transcript the umbrella school provides. If you do not have an umbrella school, submit a PDF document that includes “Homeschool Transcript” at the top that includes your courses from 9th, 10th and if applicable, 11th grade with the course and grade listed.

Can I submit test scores with my application?

  • The selection committee does not review SAT or ACT scores. Please do not submit these scores with your application.
If accepted, how long do I have to pay the camp fees and accept my spot?
  • Applicants who are accepted will be notified in mid-March. Camp Fees will be due by EOB on Wednesday, April 1 to secure your spot in the camp.

Is there a waitlist for applicants who are not accepted?

  • Applicants who are not accepted are placed on a ranked waitlist. We do not release rankings.
