Laura N. Hill, communications editor for online Encyclopedia of Alabama (EOA), was elected president of the Alabama Historical Association (AHA) for the 2026-27 term. Founded in 1947, AHA is the oldest statewide historical society in Alabama. Hill has served on a variety of AHA committees and the board of directors for a three-year term. She has also presented papers at the association’s annual meetings. Her first was on a World War I women’s service organization, the Montgomery Motor Corps. The second told the story of a pair of suffragists traveling through Alabama, as part of transcontinental tour, in a two-seat roadster and the Alabama origins of their kitten mascot. Hill is the fourth person with ties to EOA operations to serve as AHA president. The others are Wayne Flynt, Steve Murray and Jeff Jakeman.
